Chris Sommer

Chris Sommer is a unique blend of artist, engineer, visionary and naturalist. He has always been devoted to his art, and love for the ocean. Growing up in Florida, Chris spent many days fishing and exploring Florida’s gulf coast. As a child, Chris would spend hours studying marine life in the surf. He soon began to draw his visual experiences, and bring them to life.

Chris as a very young artist

Chris was born in Fort Lauderdale,  Florida on January 28, 1983   His family was involved in the commercial steel industry. As an only child, he spent most of his time drawing pictures of things he loved. From his early inspirations, his natural ability to recreate his visions has propelled him into being a professional artist. Originally, Chris’s ambition was to be a professional motocross racer. He raced motocross competitively for several years. However, in 1998, Chris ended his motocross venture after he sustained a life threatening injury while racing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

In 1999, after a miraculous recovery, Chris began to pursue his art as a profession. He introduced “Chris Sommer Collectible™” fish art apparel through a local art show and marketed himself for the first time. Based on the positive response he received, Chris began painting and designing full time. By the year 2000, he was providing custom artwork throughout the USA

Chris began to explore other art mediums as well. While brainstorming new ideas for mediums in 2003, he expanded his area of expertise and became an avid glass sculptor and glass-etching artist. He learned that he could take his free-hand art and etch it into glass. As a pioneer of his own glass-etching techniques and self-taught artistry, Chris has been able to capture the exquisite and intricate detail of his drawings into glass. This largely contributes to the worldwide popularity of his work.

Shortly thereafter, in 2004, Chris collaborated with Remi Developers (of Lighthouse Point, Florida) to transcend his works to the new luxury home market. His work was then featured in all of their new luxury homes along Florida’s east coast. Following the immense popularity, his work was featured on various television programs, including " Deco Drive: Luxury Living". Chris has now featured his work with countless designers throughout the nation as well as around the world.

Continuing on his quest for innovative ideas in 2005, Chris began research on finding a way to permanently paint glass for decorative glazing applications. With help from an overseas chemical group, Chris formulated his own permanent-bonding glass paint. His paint bonds to glass unlike any product currently offered in the USA. In late 2005, Chris began offering his glass paint in conjunction with an overseas partner. Through this collaboration, his cultivated paint is now marketed on an international level. Chris is more than just an artist. Devoted to exploring new avenues, and blazing new paths, he has consistently been involved in ways to innovate industry components such as tools and machinery. One of Chris’s first ambitions was to re-design his glass sandblasting equipment from the ground up; he said “I will make those impossible jobs possible.” Chris also transformed his company vehicles to run on clean-burning alternative fuels, long before it became popular. He has always been a constant force of drive and ambition, and a leader in what he does. Chris works closely with many organizations to advance his unparalleled ideas and techniques.
